Japanese Style Chicken Skewers: Grilled Yakitori

Our Japanese style grilled chicken skewers called Yakitori are slightly sweet and wonderfully smoky. Plus they are very easy to prepare.

Barbecue season is in full swing and we’re looking for new ideas. With the Japanese Yakitori Chicken Skewers you are very much on trend.

Ingredients for 12 skewers:

  • 700 g of chicken breast
  • 3 spoons of soy sauce
  • 1 spoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon mirin
  • 1 tablespoon miso paste
  • 1 tablespoon sake
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger
  • 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • White pepper
  • sesame for garnish

Preparation time:

  • 80 minutes (including 60 minutes for marinating)

And this is how it is done:


  1. First, cut the chicken fillet into cubes of about 2 cm and put it in a bowl.
  2. Peel the garlic and chop into small pieces. Also peel the ginger and rub it directly on the meat.
  3. Mix the remaining ingredients in a bowl to form a sauce and pour over the chicken. Massage the marinade into the meat. Leave the meat in the refrigerator for at least 60 minutes.
  4. Before grilling, soak wooden skewers in water for at least 15 minutes to prevent burning. Then distribute the meat on 10-12 skewers.
  5. Grill the skewers on the hot grill for a total of 10 minutes, turning frequently, until the chicken is cooked through. Garnish with a little sesame and serve.


Grilling doesn’t always have to be difficult and, above all, bratwurst and the like aside, it doesn’t have to be greasy either. Our Japanese-style yakitori grilled chicken skewers come off the grill and onto your plate almost completely fat-free. The extraordinary marinade gives you a taste you will never forget. An absolutely ingenious recipe that you should definitely prepare at least once in your garden.
