This easy papaya salad is called Som Tam Thai in Thailand. It is crunchy, sweet and sour and spicy and is part of classic Thai food.
Ingredients for 4 servings:
1 firm green papaya
2 cloves of garlic
1 chili pepper
1 tablespoon of ginger
1 spoon of honey
1 tablespoon of fish sauce
12 cherry tomatoes
2 spoons of peanuts
2 tablespoons of coriander
Approximately per serving:
6 grams of fat
14 grams of carbohydrates
5 grams of protein
And this is how it is done:
Cut the papaya and carrot into thin strips. Halve the chilli and peel and finely chop the garlic. Halve the cherry tomatoes and squeeze the juice from the lemons.
Now mix all the ingredients except peanuts and coriander and mix vigorously. Of course, traditional production in large mortar with pressing is also possible.
While the salad is infusing, roast the peanuts and pluck the coriander and cut into fine strips. Arrange and serve everything together. If necessary, remove the chili before eating.
For this Thai papaya salad you need an unripe green papaya. This is much firmer than a ripe fruit and its flesh is almost white in contrast to the reddish ripe fruit. This traditional Thai dish is rightfully very popular with us, and the best thing about it: It’s super easy with just a few ingredients from the Asian market nearby!
